When it comes to homemade goodies, there is no denying that one cult favorite is definitely the ever so popular face mask. After all, why buy when you can DIY, right? Why would you bother spending your money on something like this when you could whip one up with whatever ingredients you already have sitting right in your kitchen cupboard? Plus, another great thing about making your own mask is that you get to choose exactly what you put on your face- so there is no fear of harsh chemicals or anything that you could be allergic to. But not only are these homemade face masks safe, they are very, very effective too. Natural beauty is the best!
Don’t know where to start? Well, you can start right here. We’ve decided to do a Face Mask Face Off, compiling a huge number of homemade, do it yourself recipes, from simple two-ingredient ones to other’s that require a couple more, some for oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, some brightening, some tightening, some exfoliating, moisturizing, anti aging, and just about your all around beautifying skincare.
So what are you waiting for? Let’s go ahead and jump right in.
But before you start mixing and matching ingredients, you have to get your face and neck ready first. You don’t just put on a mask, you have to do a bit of face prep, which is really simple anyway. So simple, in fact, that you probably already do this anyway. But if you don’t…
- Always start with a clean face. ALWAYS. It doesn’t matter if your face mask is the kind you wash off after or one that you leave on overnight or so, you should make sure that you start with a clean face. Just as you normally would, wash your face with your favorite cleanser/soap/whatever it is that you normally use.
- Pat dry. Again, another always, ALWAYS PAT DRY. Never rub your face with a towel. To help keep pores smaller and tighter, we pat. So always pat dry- well, mostly dry anyway. Moist skin is the most absorbent, so after you wash and give your skin a little pat with a clean towel, it is then the perfect time to go ahead an apply your mask.
The Best Time To Do It
Before we get to the recipes, you may be wondering just exactly what time of the day is best to put on a face mask. Actually, there is no best time per se if you are just thinking about the effectiveness of each one. However, if you factor in your hectic schedule of work or school and what not, right before you go to bed seems to be most ideal.
Aside from just working on your skin directly, you also want to take this time to relax and unwind. After all, stress can also add a couple of years on your face too.
The great thing about these masks, as if they weren’t great already, is that you don’t need to use them every day1-2 times a week should be enough.

One main ingredient, Turmeric, and three different ways to use it.
Instead of throwing a bouquet after it has withered and wilted, why not show you skin some love as well? Rose petals are the perfect homemade skincare ingredient. So, if you’ve already got the flowers, make the best out of them and try out this DIY rose petal face mask.
Here is a simple DIY Anti Aging Exfoliating Mask recipe that involves one of the newest skin care super stars, CACAY OIL. Aside from that, everything else you need, you’ve probably already got right in your kitchen.
9. Aspirin Mask
Not only for roasting on an open fire, chestnuts are also great for your skin, too. Give your skin a treat with your very own Homemade Chestnut Face Mask. Just be sure to save the chestnut shells and have a rather hardcore blender ready for some serious grinding action. With three more ingredients you’ll be able to make a natural cleansing/exfoliating mask that is safe yet effective and is really great for acne control as well.
Cranberries are good for your skin. They are jam packed with antioxidants such as resveratrol, which not only help fight off nasty pimples, but actually keep the skin young, vibrant, and healthy. Remember: Antioxidants = Anti aging. Cranberries are also full of vitamin C, which is’t only for keeping away the sniffles, but when it comes to skin, it actually ups the collagen production which makes your skin tight and firm.
12. Banana Anti Aging Mask
When it comes to fighting off the flu or even preventing it in the first place, a good dose of Vitamin C is automatically comes to mind. Everyone knows that Vitamin C is just the thing to give your immune system the boost it needs, but did you know that aside from keeping the sniffles away, it can also help keep those age spots and wrinkles at bay? It’s true. Check out this two ingredient Vitamin C face mask.
Bigger is not always better. This is especially true when it comes to the pores on your face. Your skin really is the secret to staying young and looking good, so you should take the best care of it as you can. And as for shrinking these little (or shall I say large?) suckers, home remedies can come to the rescue. – Safe, effective, and affordable: The Honey Avocado Skin Tightening Mask.
Getting rid of hair that shouldn’t really be there, especially on your face, shaving, pulling, and plucking aren’t your only ‘natural’ options. You will be happy to know that there is a rather painless peel off solution that is probably already sitting right in your kitchen cupboard- The Milk And Gelatin Facial Hair Removal Peel Off Mask.
16. Cucumber Mask
Let’s face it, just like a workout, when it comes to skincare, sometimes you need to feel the ‘burn’ to know that it’s working. Think of it as a stinging sensation to softer, smoother skin, if you will. So, if you don’t mind a little pain in your beauty process, then this homemade burning face mask is definitely work a try. After all, it is a small price to pay to help even out your skin tone and even fade ugly acne scars.
The next time you’re battling a breakout, why not try this DIY acne away cinnamon face mask? Everything you need is probably already tucked away in your kitchen cupboard.
19. Cabbage Firming Mask
There are different ways to help treat acne and reduce the redness, but this DIY Acne Away Honey Facial Mask is definitely one of my favorties. It’s a safe and effective natural treatment, plus you probably have everything you need in your kitchen already. It is super easy to make too.
21. Kaolin Clay Mask
Detox doesn’t have to be limited to your diet. Sure, we at BeYouthful truly believe that beauty begins from within, but is certainly doesn’t stop there. You have to take care of your skin from the inside and out. Here is a great DIY mask that will help purify and cleanse your face ridding the skin of unwanted impurities.
Retinol is more or less an active form of Vitamin A. Carrots are jam packed with beta carotene, aka vitamin A, aka retinol. Put two and two together and a couple other ingredients and you have one great CARRETIONOL (carrot retinol) face mask.
Powdered Milk- loved it when you were a baby, as a drink of course. You will love it again now that you’re a lady, as a great skincare treat. This DIY powdered milk face mask will leave you with softer, smoother skin with a lighter, more even tone and even smaller, tighter pores.
Red Clay masks are just amazing at sucking up excess oil, dirt, and grime from your face. Sure you could run to the nearest department store and grab one off the shelf, but why not just make you own mask at home instead?
26-28. 3 Argan Oil Masks
Pumpkin is super healthy, but since this is about a homemade pumpkin face mask, let’s just focus on why it’s good when it is applied topically. Pumpkins are rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and are full of various enzymes that will nourish your skin, make it brighter, and give you that gorgeous glow.
30-32. 3 Berry Masks
33. Beer Beauty Mask
Cheers for beer. And you thought that the only benefit you could get from beer was to unwind after a stressful day. Truth be told, there is beauty in every beer bottle, but I’m not talking about drinking it. When made into a mask, beer could actually be a secret weapon to superb skin!
35-37. 3 Egg Masks
38. Chocolate Mask
Pampering your face has never been this sweet, quite literally. Not only does this DIY chocolate facial hydrate, deep clean, unclog, and keep your skin young and radiant, but because of its main ingredient, it can actually serve as a quick “lift me up”, and not just because it is making you pretty.
